Versindaba Blog Archive Desmond Painter. Dennis Cooper and Little Caeser
My previous post on this blog was about the American poet and writer Dennis Cooper. In addition n to his writing is also known Cooper for the magazine Little Caesar. It is on Cooper's website describes as "a literary journal with an anarchist, punk rock spirit."
"From its humble beginnings as a skinny, low-tech zine dominated by poetry, it grew into a book sized magazine featuring poetry, fiction, portfolios of art and photography, n essays, special theme issues, and interviews with a wide range of writers, artists, and pop culture figures (Ranging from idol Leif Garrett on to musicians like Johnny Rotten and Gram Parsons to porn director Toby Ross, to name but a few). "
There were a total of twelve editions of Little Caeser between 1976 and 1982 appeared. With contributors including Andy Warhol, Lou Reed, Nico, Debbie Harry and Brian Eno included, it is not surprising that these expenses are not collectors today. n According to Cooper's website: "These days, issues or Little Caesar are highly Sought After and have sold on the collector's market for as much $ 800." Cooper's introduction to Little Caeser one reminds me of Loftus Marais's "The Poet as rock star "and in the discussions about the relationship between poetry and music in Afrikaans rock that followed:
"I have this dream where writers are mobbed everywhere They go, like rock stars and actors. A prédilection? You never know. People like Patti Smith are subtly Forcing Their Audiences to Become literate, Introducing them to Rimbaud, n Breton, Burroughs and others. Poetry sales are Higher than they've bone in fifteen years. In Paris at year old boys clutching well worn copies of Apollonaire's alcools well hun hun Mouths hands on in amazement avant paintings by Renoir and Monet. Bruce Lee movies close in three days. This could happen n here. "
There is nothing new under the sun! Anyway, for those in American cultural n phenomena as little mags from the 1970s are interested, there is good news: You do not need $ 800 to get your hands on Little n Caesar opportunities. You can have several of them in PDF format to view and download on Cooper's website. This is just another of Cooper's poems; A very appropriate one, I think, since this morning we wandered into an almost forgotten, very marginal archives:
Time is a construct. Constructed to give to us knowledge of good and evil, the hard way. But before you know it, time is up.
Indeed, Carina. Wizard, it's your poem? Maybe you should then "good" and "evil" replaced with "left" and "right", in that order. Just a suggestion!
Hehe! I do not know who you are beneath your disguise, but if you are on Saturdays in the hands gets you sure last week the article on the left and right have?
I would like to read AT article. Is it available somewhere on this world-wide-spider? Right is obviously not the same everywhere. African, American, English and Russian rightists are different things.
